After Cooper left, Arch Oboler took over and gave the series his own distinctive (that is, seriously twisted) style. It was the creation of Wyllis Cooper, who later went on to give us QUIET, PLEASE (almost the equal of LIGHTS OUT in my opinion, and many people rate it as better). LIGHTS OUT, the greatest horror series of Old-Time Radio, first appeared on Januon a local Chicago station. Probably I will listen to enough of one show to be able to write a fair review, but for now, let's revisit a great favorite of mine, LIGHTS OUTĪ sepulchral voice intones, "Lights Out, Everybody." Then as a bell tolls midnight, the voice speaks again, one word between each striking of the bell. Today, I heard the show with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis that guest-starred Peter Lorre (it was okay, I found it way too forced and Martin's songs were nothing special, but Lorre was funny).
